How much print advertising did you do in 2009?

We got curious about something, so figured we'd do a quick and dirty poll:

Now, why did you answer the way you did?

If you could post your reasons for the choice above in the comments, we'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Very Little - special purpose only.
(Tried the poll but it threw a "Homie Don't Play That Error" on my iMac).

I always allocate for advertising including print, many clients do understand that digital advertising is the way to go,but there are some special occasions where a well placed ad is appropriate, and even expected still.I prefer to spend the money on digital advertising, without question.I know many brokers/realtors who spend tons of time effort and money on advertising with little to no ROI,its hard to make the transition especially if they don't understand it (I've even tried to educate colleagues who are also long time friends, and any given day of the week-I can call them and they are STILL preparing the mailings,or laying out their page for the local freebie mag or something ).At the end of the day it is our function to educate our clients on the how and why we do things,if they disagree, and its a deal breaker, there is no rule that says you have to continue the business relationship.Sometimes you need to fire clients and vice versa. (BTW I also got the "Homie Don't Play That" Error)

I think it depends on how you define "print advertising". Some might not consider placing flyers on a for sale sign post as a "print ad", some will.

Some may only consider "print advertising" as "traditional" print ads run in a newspaper/magazine,

Some might call a printed newsletter as advertising, some might not.

Can you be more specific in how YOU are defining "print advertising"?

Hey Jay - sorry, I should have clarified: I mean any sort of advertising on paper, whether newspapers or flyers

As much as I love my single property websites and social media effort, I still spend a lot of cash on very traditional marketing (branding print ads, JL/JS postcards, and sponsorships). Should I be? I'm afraid of what both perception and outcome would be if I suddenly stop everything that has worked for me for the past 5 years.

Meh - I did some print ads as a minor part of my overall marketing

I do very little news paper type but do flyers as we can not put yard signs in my market. I do postacrd just sold/listed as some of the $$ is provided by my broker so I use it.

Kathleen - I think you answered your own "Should I be?" question. You said, "... suddenly stop everything that has worked for me for the past 5 years." If it's been working for you for five years, why stop?? There is nothing wrong with print advertising done right, and obviously you are doing it right.

Always review, analyze and modify if needed. But stop something that's working? I don't think so.

Given the clarification Rob, my answer should have been "Meh", not "None". (I got an error too on the poll, so not sure if my answer "stuck".)

Kathleen-
If its working for you,why stop ? But like all things,we should all be constantly evaluating what is and is not working for us and adjust accordingly-not just specific to advertising,of course.... :)

I printed a few flyers for listings, and used paper to produce a few market analyses for listing presentations, but otherwise I was all digital.

(Your pole doesn't seem to be working for me either!)
